The next day, after visiting Rome, our incredible cruise liner Wonder of The Seas arrived in Naples.
From its height, the cruise liner Celebrity Edge seems quite small.
It’s wonderful that “Wonder of the Seas” arrives almost in the city center.
Of course, I don’t mean the geographical center, but the historic part of the city along the seafront for guests and tourists, the Centro Storico.
By the way, since I also live in a resort city by the sea and have been to many others, I’ll share my observation. ⤵️⤵️⤵️
In resorts, the geographical city center and the tourist-historical center are different things. The geographical center is just the middle of the town, filled with skyscrapers, business centers, malls, and more. And here, the phrase “living in the center” doesn’t necessarily indicate any prestige or status.
You may live on the 45th floor of some high-rise surrounded by similar buildings, and so what? But by the seafront – that’s a different story. There you’ll find hotels, villas, luxurious sea-view apartments, restaurants, clubs, and more. That’s the main area of activity; that’s the real center.
Okay, let’s get back to Naples. Unlike Rome, there was no need to travel far; Naples starts right at the seaport, just a few hundred meters away from the ships.
Let’s turn around and bid them farewell for now.
And then let’s stride enthusiastically towards the first sight we encounter – Castel Nuovo.
Castel Nuovo
If someone asks you what it means to “build for centuries” – send them a link to this post – the building is almost 750 years old! Modern constructions, of course, don’t last as long.
By the way, the founder of the castle never settled there, but as they say, that’s another story.
Alright, let’s take a look inside a bit later; for now, let’s move on to the Historical Center of Naples.
As you might guess, Naples is a beautiful city.
Better to see it once, so here’s a tourist ticket, a photo gallery:
This selection includes the famous Palazzo Reale di Napoli (Royal Palace of Naples) and Piazza del Plebiscito. By the way, I already have a top 50 world attractions list that I’ve personally visited, and these two will go into the second top 50, which I’ll compile over time.
I heard that one of the unofficial symbols of Naples is laundry hanging above the street.
Arches in Naples Alleys
A unique form of art.
I’ll pause for now, leaving this post in the editing stage. In the second part (someday), I’ll talk about the famous Gambrinus Café in Naples and other local attractions.
